Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival – Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

The company safari guide will be waiting for you at Kigali Airport (meet and greet), and you can explore some of the city if time permits before beginning the drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park, which is home to a variety of habitats such as montane forests, bamboos, grasslands, and swamps. It takes 6–7 hours to travel 219 kilometers (km) to reach the Nyungwe Forest National Park from Kigali, Rwanda, depending on the day’s weather. Along the way, you can enjoy stopping at various tourist attractions.

13 primate species can be found in Nyungwe Forest National Park, including chimpanzees, blue monkeys, colobus, red-tailed monkeys, and grey-chequered mangabeys. There are around 300 different species of birds.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking and Transfer to Gisenyi Town

Nyungwe Chimps

After an early breakfast, go for one hour to the park headquarters for a briefing on the dos and don’ts of chimpanzee trekking excursions. Then, spend 3–4 hours in the jungle searching for the primates.

Spend an hour with them after being located, then go back to the inn for lunch before being transferred to Kibuye in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight accommodations are provided by the Lake Kivu Serena Hotel and Water Front Beach Hotel, respectively.

Day 3: Enjoy Boat cruise & Relaxation at the Beach.

After breakfast, your safari guide will be ready to take you on a boat tour of the islands and fishing settlements on Lake Kivu. After that, head back to the resort to unwind while taking in the beauty of Congo’s Mount Nyiragongo.  If there is time, the guide will take you around the Congo Nile route in the evening to see the various landscapes. As before, dinner and overnight.

Day 4:Transfer to Volcanoes National Park & Golden Monkey tracking.

After an early breakfast, you will drive from Gisenyi to Ruhengeri. You will leave at around 4:30 in the morning and arrive at 6:30 in the morning. You will then drive to the park headquarters for a briefing on the rules and regulations for golden monkey tracking while sipping tea provided by the park, and then get in the safari jeep to travel to the starting point for golden monkey tracking.

This Rwanda safari excursion will last for three to five hours, after which you’ll return to the lodge for lunch. You will visit a community in the afternoon that includes viewing the twin lakes created by the volcanoes. After dinner, head back to Five Volcanoes Lodge or Engagi Safari Lodge for the night.

Day 5: Mountain Gorilla Trekking

Get up extremely early, eat breakfast, and then travel to the Musanze district’s Volcanoes National Park. Go directly to the park offices to receive a briefing on the gorillas, including the distribution of gorilla groups and guides.

After that, enter a tropical rain forest and continue looking for mountain gorillas there, starting from where you last saw them the previous day. You may see them going about their daily activities, such as feeding their young, climbing trees, and relaxing. Turn off your flash before taking your greatest pictures.

Return to the park headquarters to pick up your gorilla tracking certificate after this entire activity, which lasts no longer than an hour. After lunch, return to the hotel to unwind. Afternoon: Go on a tour to the lake, explore the amazing caves that surround it, and take photos with plenty of silly postures close to the caves. Then come back to the lodge for supper and the night.

Day 6: Dian Fossey tombs tour

After breakfast, you’ll visit the graves of the famous gorilla lover (Dian Fossey), where you may learn more about the contributions she made to gorilla conservation. Tracking golden monkeys, an exciting hike to Mount Bisoke, or exploring the Musanze caverns are further potential activities. After arriving back at the resort, have dinner and spend the night.

Day 7: Visit Ib’iwachu Cultural Village

After an early breakfast, visit Ib’iwachu Cultural Village to learn about the genuine culture of the historical Rwandan people. Afterward, return to the resort for a shower before traveling to Kigali.

Enjoy lunch in Kigali, then go on a city tour to see the regional craft studios before being dropped off at the airport to catch your flight home.
