Kahuzi Biega national park is located in Bukavu, which lies in the south of the Democratic Republic of Congo and is home to some of the world’s lowland gorillas.
The Rusizi border between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo provides access to this park.
Approximately 100,000 lowland gorillas remain in the wild, which is why they are considered endangered.

Trip Description
Day 1: Drive from Kigali and cross to Bukavu.
Upon receiving your test results and receiving clearance for movement, your driver guide will meet you to transfer you to Kahuzi Biega.
It will take you approximately eight hours to complete this journey, so you should begin your journey early in the morning.
After leaving Rwanda, you will drive south via Butare where you may visit the Butare museum and have lunch.

Lowland Gorillas
Further driving will lead you to the Rusizi border, where you will check in and cross to Bukavu. After checking into your hotel, you will settle in while you await dinner and the night’s accommodation.
Day 2: Lowland gorilla trekking in Kahuzi Biega national park.
On the 2nd day of your 3 days Kahuzi Biega national park, Early in the morning, you should have a simple breakfast at your hotel before heading to the Kahuzi Biega national park for a morning briefing before engaging in any activities.
There will be some guidelines provided by the ranger guides regarding what to expect and what is the accepted code of conduct in the forest.
Afterward, you will hire any necessary equipment, such as porters or walking sticks, and head into the forest.
After hiking for about two hours, you will meet your gorilla family for the day. The experience will last approximately an hour and a half at a distance of six meters, followed by a return journey with your driver guide to your hotel for a late lunch.
As an evening activity, you may choose to go on a guided community tour and return to the hotel in time for dinner and a second night.
Day 3: Drive back to Kigali.
After waking up in time for breakfast at your hotel, prepare your luggage for the drive back to Kigali. Once you have crossed into Rwanda, you will embark on this 8 hour transfer headed back to Kigali via Nyungwe forest. During your journey, you may have the opportunity to visit the Butare museum if it was not possible to do so on the preceding day.
After lunch in Butare or Gisakura, you will continue to Kigali for drop-off at the hotel or at the airport as you recommend.
